What’s your Dosha ?

So do you know … what’s your Dosha ?VPK_2013_Icons-2

What’s my what? I hear you say …. 🙂

Doshas are the energies that govern not only our bodies but our thoughts and emotions too.  According to the ancient Ayurvedic tradition, when we become aware of our dominant doshas, we can use this knowledge to get ourselves back into balance.

As a Massage therapist and Reflexologist, I find this type of Constitutional Analysis very interesting during my consultation with clients. It really helps to gain a deeper understanding of what may be currently out of balance.

During an Indian Head Massage Session, I will use specific oils and aftercare to treat the ‘out of balance Dosha’. As with all complementary therapies, this really adds to the holistic approach and individual tailoring of the treatment.

When Teaching my Post Grad Indian Head Massage Course to Therapists, I pay attention to Dosha analysis and also Chakra awareness as a means to another dimension of the consultation process. We all need a few tools in our Therapy ToolBox to draw on when needed as well as keep our treatments fresh and current.

I’m delighted to be offering a weekend course next weekend.  This course is for therapists who would like to offer their clients a new treatment.  Full details can be found here

In the meantime, here’s a fun Dosha Quiz from the Chopra Centre. http://doshaquiz.chopra.com

Are you a Vata/Pitta, Pitta/Kapha or some other combination ? You’re wondering now aren’t you. Try it out!  Very interesting and let me know how you get on … 🙂

In’Joy,

Embracing Change

So my hubby (The Sculptor) has completed his latest piece ‘Butterflies’ and before they flutter off off to their new owner this week, they are taking refuge and rest in my Therapy Room.  Even bronze sculptures need Balance ….

Ray Delaney.  ‘Butterflies’

I absolutely love the energy of butterflies.  They remind me that ‘change’ and even ‘complete transformation’ is ok. It’s more than OK, it’s the absolute way of living.  The journey of these beauties from beginning to end is a process with many phases but the result is a total transition from caterpillar to butterfly.

Often when we get to these ‘changing’ points in our lives, we can experience some resistance.  Sometimes it’s fear of the unknown and sometimes it’s the result of being caught in an old way of thinking.  I’ve had many conversations in the last week with people who are finding it hard to deal with their current changes and upheaval. If nature can allow this to take place so effortlessly, then why can we ?

Nothing in this life stays the same for very long.  Yes there will be change. Yes it may be challenging. Yes it may defy our best laid plans.  Yes it may take longer than we like or happen so fast, it leaves us in a spin.  (Can you sense a ‘but’ coming on … )

BUT … if we keep our awareness on what works and trust in the nature of Life itself, then YES we will eventually break out, spread our wings and just like my beautiful visitors, flutter off to our next adventure without a backward glance.

Embracing my changes this week 🙂

And what’s a butterfly? At best,
He’s but a caterpillar, at rest.

Sinusitis (Ouch) – I’ll get by with a little help from my friends …

littlemagicboxWell it’s that time of year again – Dampness is setting in and so is all of those damp illnesses.  I have picked up a dose of Sinusitis and much to my dislike, I have been prescribed a course of antibiotics, decongestants and pain killers. I would much rather opt for a natural course of treatment but I am wise enough to know when it gets this bad, I need the antibiotic.  That doesn’t mean that I cant help the whole process along with a little help from my friends – my Essential Oils (from my little magic box) … and some other natural remedies.

Are you getting your Beauty Sleep ?

Portrait of 20-25 years old beautiful woman on white bedWe all know that a good night’s sleep is important to our overall health and wellbeing so how can we ensure that we get the most from our Slumber Time …
Here’s my Top 10 Tips
1.  As much as possible, try to go to bed at approx the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning. (Yes the odd lie-in is allowed of course)
2. Reduce stimulating drinks and food late in the evening. Cut back on the Tea and Chocolate after 8pm. Chamomile Tea before bed is very relaxing.
3. Keep your bedroom clutter free. Ensure the temperature is not too hot and not too cold and the room is well ventilated.
4. Avoid late night TV drama or books of a similar nature.  If you read before sleep, keep it light and give yourself some time between finishing reading and going off to sleep.  Do not read from a backlit device like an iPad.
5. Dim the lights in the bedroom. Keep the brightness to a minimum. A low watt bedside lamp is perfect. Continue reading “Are you getting your Beauty Sleep ?”
